She studied ceramics at the Barcelona Industrial School and her first artistic influences are in this discipline. Later she focuses on the study of drawing, painting and engraving. When she decides to dedicate her life professionally to painting, she chooses to endow her creations with a craft finish, incorporating a technique similar to that used in her ceramics: the combination of layers of natural glazes with oil and acrylic paints applied with spatula.

This mixed technique gives her paintings and sculptures the colors, luster and finish characteristic of ceramics. The juxtaposition of the materials used allows her to create a contrast between the clear and opaque areas.

Natalia Villanueva paints imaginary landscapes, environments inspired by what has always existed.

Her art brings the figurative to a refined representation. She releases the seascape, giving her work a lot of light, contrast and texture. Her approach is to modernize and revitalize the tradition of nautical painting.

Villanueva uses the marine theme to convey to the viewer the feeling of freedom, strength and will to live.
